Choice of Music Genre:

I have chosen to make my music magazine a 'rock' themed magazine and will show new and talented artists in the industry that perform and write music in the style. -I have chosen this genre because it is one of the many styles of music that I like to listen to in my spare time. As well as that my main model that I would like to use has that look about her. The genre of rock also relates to the name of the magazine.
You use amps to make music instruments louder, e.g. an electric guitar which is used in rock music and rock music is also very loud too.

Examples of Existing Artists:

30 Seconds To Mars;
With songs like 'Closer To The Edge' and 'Kings and Queens'
they are definately rockstars with many followers

Debbie Harry (the lead singer of Blondie);
One of the ledgendary artists of the 70's, 80's and even 90's

Freddie Mercury;
The lead singer of the unforgettable rock band Queen.
He could have created this genre of music with the amount of talent he had.

GreenDay;
Records like 'American Idiot' pleases rock fans everywhere.

Iggy Pop;
The outrages rock star that gave all rock stars the 'bad ass' rep they have today...

Pat Benatar;
Staying strong through heart ache and many ups and downs she created music
that won't be forgotten.

Taylor Momsen (lead singer of The Pretty Reckless);
The most modern of all the ones listed however still creating great rock music, thanks to her inspiration from some of the rock artists listed above. With people like Freddie Mercury inspiring her to succeed and her mother who is Debbie Harry herself, she really was born to rock.

LIIAR Analysis of The Brief:

- Thumbnail images that illustrate other articles
-The title 'AMPLIFY' will have a slogan underneath acting as anchorage.
-The price will be £3.00 and shown on the front of the mag next to the barcode and issue number.
- Teasing contents will be along the bottom saying what will be in my magazine.
- The Main article / feature advertised will relate to the main image.
I – It will be on behalf of the Music Industry and it is a new magazine that I am publishing to promote different artists and their different individual styles of music.
I – The message it will give out will be that the Music Industry is full of different talent.

I -

I -

A - An editors letter will be written for the readers.

R - The message from the editor of the magazine, on behalf of everyone, will represent the magazine in a positive way as it shows readers how thankful they are towards them.

- Contact information of the makers of the magazine, i.e. E-mail, Address, Contact Number etc. will be next to the editors letter so that if readers have any questions they are able to ask them and get an answer. This will be a good representation as it shows readers that they are interested in what they have to say and think about the magazine.

LIIAR Analysis of my College Magazine:

LANGUAGE:
Conventions: The slogan is situated underneath the masthead at the top of the magazine. It is ‘Learn about Wyke College…’ this tells you in itself what the magazine is about as well as rhyming with the masthead/title: ‘Wyke Knowledge’. This is the anchorage I have used on the front cover to draw in people attention more.
The masthead is bold and broad so that it grabs people attention and straight away they know what that particular magazine is called.
The titles of the stories also grab people’s attention so that the audience know what stories will be inside and hopefully make them want to read the magazine more because they think that the stories sound good!
-All styles of the text; Masthead, Slogan, Subheadings/Titles etc… Have the same house style throughout the magazine, this means I have used a consistent amount of two or three main colours and one or two fonts throughout the entire publication to establish brand identity and so that it looks more professional.
This means I have used a consistent amount of two or three main colours and one or two fonts throughout the entire publication to establish brand identity.
INSTITUTION:
This magazine is for the college to distribute so that more people can learn and know more about the college and what it has to offer.
IDEOLOGY:
The message it is trying to send out is that it isn’t a boring college and there is a lot going on and it has a lot to offer students.
The purpose of this magazine is so that more students become aware of what is happening in their college and how their fellow college students are doing as well.
It should represent the college in a good and positive light.
AUDIENCE:
Target Audience:
The specific group of people towards whom this magazine is directed is 15-24 (mainly college students) which are in both INNER and OUTER DIRECTED groups.
I think that because of the images I have used and colour scheme/house style I decided on attracts the students and looks more like a college magazine then a sophisticated magazine such as the journal which is obviously directed to older people, not so much students.

REPRESENTATION:
It represents the students at Wyke College and how if they work hard at what they want they can succeed! It doesn’t represent teens in a negative way it represents them in a very positive one.  -It doesn’t stereotype teens/students as being reckless or anti-social like television might.
It also represents the college in a good light because it shows that it is dedicated to its students and is proud of them when they achieve something, this is shown because they write about it in the magazine so everyone can see how well they are doing.

Presenting my Findings of Audience Feedback on Contents Page Draft:

I asked 5 girls and 5 boys for their feedback on my magazine contents page draft and these were the results...

Does it look professional?
They all agreed that the contents page also looked professional as well as the front cover.
Does it match the house style that is used on the front cover?
Everyone thought that the contents page matched the house style which is good because it means that the colour scheme is consistent throughout the magazine. This also makes the magazine look more attractive and professional as it is how all of the magazines such as 'OK' or 'New!' look.

Do the pictures match the stories?
100% decided that the pictures went well with the stories and also made the contents page look more interesting instead of it just being lots of writing. It looks more attractive because of the images that have been put on too.

Is the text and information clear?
Just like the front cover the writing is clear on the contents page also.

Other Comments Made:
'It is good but again position is spelt worng..'

'It matches the Front Cover and you can tell they are part of the same magazine'

'Without the pictures it would look really boring and its good that they are positioned next to the story and page number too.'

'The stories are really good!'

'I like how underneath the sub-title it gives a bit of information about the article so you know what it is about.'

Feedback Questionnaire on Draft of Contents Page:

The same people that were asked about the front cover (5 girls and 5 boys) were asked these questions about the contents page...
Does it look professional? -100% said YES
Does it match the house style that is used on the front cover? -100% said YES
Do the pictures match the stories? -100% said YES
Is the text and information clear? -100% said YES

Presenting my Findings of Audience Feedback on Final Front Cover:

I asked 5 girls and 5 boys for their feedback on my final front cover and these were the results...

Does it look porfessional?
All students thought that my final magazine did look professional and looks like a magazine that would be sold on a shelf in a shop.

Would you read it?
Only 80% of people asked said yes to whether they would read my magazine and 20% said they wouldn't, however the 20% that did answer no were male, which could mean two things: 1) Girls are more likely to read magazines than Boys OR 2) The magazine looks more like a Girls magazine rather than Boys.

Does it grab your attention?
Everyone said that it does grab your attention because of the pictures and colour scheme, which leads on to the house style....

Has it got a good house style?
Most of the people I asked said they like the house style and it is what grabs their attention.

Is the text and information clear?
All of them could read the text clearly and said that the positioning works well as it is not only clear but also links with the images, which makes them want to read more...

Other Comments Made:
'I really like it, overall it looks good and everything works well together, but youve spelt position wrong... It should be POZition'

'It is a good magazine but I dont read so I wouldnt read it.'

'I like how it looks, it looks really professional! But I think youve spekt position wrong..? I think its spelt with a Z?'

'The images really grab my attention and the information about the main article is really good! Id definately read it!'

How I would promote my magazine and the launch of it:

To promote my magazine on the internet I will use viral marketing campaigns. For example, I could have an advert/thumbnail/link on the Facebook website so that when people log on they can see when the launch of the magazine is and if they click on the link they could find out more information about it. –This would work well because Facebook is one of the main forms of social networking meaning if the advert/thumbnail/link were to be on there it would probably get noticed more. And when they click on the advert/thumbnail/link it would take them to the website where information about the magazine is given.
The website would only have sections of the stories in the magazine; whereas the main magazine that you buy will have all of them. This should encourage people to buy the magazine because it will make them want to read the full story, so they will go and buy it. Using the internet in this way would be a huge benefit because it would promote the magazine as well as showing what it has to offer and persuading them to buy the magazine.
Then depending on the interest in the magazine an Ipod app could be made where you pay £1 monthly or possibly less and the magazine is automatically downloaded when it is released monthly.
